Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh Quest Turns into a Frenzied Contest

The Los Angeles Chargers will need to move quickly on acquiring Jim Harbaugh next week if they are truly trying to go all in. It was only natural for Harbaugh to interview with additional teams, but now the Atlanta Falcons have taken a huge move forward.

The #Falcons are scheduling a second interview with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh for next week, per sources. So with Bill Belichick in Atlanta for more meetings today, the Falcons also want to continue the conversation with Harbaugh, who met in-person with them on Tuesday. pic.twitter.com/bcAfwpjp53 — Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 19, 2024 The Falcons are making sure they get the right man, as they are currently interviewing Bill Belichick a second time.

While Belichick to Atlanta makes a ton of sense, they will also make sure they give Harbaugh the chance to make his case too. Strangely, the Chargers have not yet set up a second interview with Harbaugh. In-person interviews can begin on Monday, and we imagine that the Bolts will need to work fast to ensure they can talk to Harbaugh first. That’s not to say that talking to him first will mean a deal will be agreed upon, but the Chargers should do all they can to bring him in if the reports of the organization are “all in” on the current Michigan HC. Harbaugh was instrumental in turning the 49ers around in 2011 after they spent multiple seasons at the bottom of the NFC.

The idea would be that he could do the same for the Chargers, while also simultaneously making Justin Herbert even better. With a second interview with the Falcons on the board, it appears that Harbaugh’s return to the NFL is all but a done deal. The Chargers need to set up their next interview with him immediately.
