Wolverines Good At Producing Players In The Super Bowl As This Year Produced Four In The Super Bowl…
Three former Michigan players won a Super Bowl last season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
This year, four ex-Wolverines will vie for football’s top prize. The Chiefs topped the Baltimore Ravens 17-10 in the AFC championship on Sunday, while the San Francisco 49ers rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit to beat the Detroit Lions 34-31 in the NFC title game.
Here’s how the seven former Michigan players fared Sunday:
49ers WR Ronnie Bell
The seventh-round rookie played in all 17 regular season games but has been inactive for both of San Francisco’s playoff games.
Chiefs DE Michael Danna
The 2020 fifth-round pick will be playing in his third Super Bowl and has a chance at his second title. He is the lone ex-Wolverine remaining on the roster after defensive end Frank Clark departed in free agency and backup quarterback Chad Henne retired.
Lions OL Graham Glasgow
Glasgow and the offensive line dominated up front in the first half, paving the way for the Lions to rush for 148 yards en route to a 24-7 lead. But the team ran for just 34 yards in the second half and didn’t score until late in the fourth quarter. Glasgow is in his second stint with the Lions since being drafted by them in 2016.
Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson
Hutchinson was quiet Sunday after recording eight tackles and three sacks in Detroit’s first two postseason wins. The 2021 No. 2 overall pick didn’t have any tackles or quarterback hits but did break up two Brock Purdy passes at the line of scrimmage.
49ers K Jake Moody
The rookie third-round pick missed a 48-yard attempt in the first quarter but made his only two other attempts – a 43-yarder in the third quarter and a 33-yarder in the fourth.
Lions WR Donovan Peoples-Jones
He played six offensive snaps Sunday but wasn’t targeted. The mid-season acquisition returned one punt for 10 yards.
49ers CB Ambry Thomas
Jared Goff threw Thomas’ way often Sunday. Thomas finished with six tackles and played 58% of defensive snaps. He nearly had an interception but Detroit receiver Jameson Williams ripped it back from his hands for a catch.
