Shocking Twist: Senior Bowl in Crisis as Two Michigan Stars Abruptly Withdraw – Only Six Players Remain

MOBILE, Ala. — Michigan’s large Senior Bowl contingent this year has dropped to six.

Linebacker Michael Barrett and defensive back Mike Sainristil have pulled out of this year’s post-season showcase event here in Mobile, Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy confirmed on Tuesday.

Barrett and Sainristil, who previously accepted invites, were not on rosters distributed Monday — taking the nation’s best list of Wolverines from eight to six.

Sainristil elected to pull out of this year’s game after the national championship, Nagy said, while Barrett suffered a draft-prep injury in the last week.

“He had an injury that he didn’t have all season,” Nagy said Tuesday during an introductory press conference. “That’s the other part of this — guys get done with college football and then they start training for the combine and it’s whole different set of muscles that they use; they’re susceptible to pulls and whatnot.

“That’s what happened with Michael Barrett.”
