Huge News: Michigan Football Nears Deal with High-Profile D-Line Coach! Wolverines Set to Dominate

Michigan football fans have been freaking out about some of the departures from the Wolverines coaching staff. Mike Elston and Steve Clinkscale were the two most recent departures.

It’s understandable to have some angst after these departures. Assistant coaches play a huge role on the recruiting trail and those departures probably mean more in terms of player retention/departure than even head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Yet, since the departure of Clink, which was understandable in my mind after he was passed over for the defensive coordinator job, Sherrone Moore has been doing work.

For starters, he went out and made a great hire for the general manager position in Sean Magee. Magee used to work for Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football before leaving for the Bears to be their Chief of Staff.

Oklahoma was set to hire Magee, but Moore was able to lure him to Michigan football. Magee will help improve things from an NIL perspective. He can also help with coaching hires and helped get Ben Herbert to Ann Arbor in the first place.

Now, Moore seems poised to make another big-time hire, this time for defensive line coach. Multiple reports have stated that Greg Scruggs is expected to leave Wisconsin for Michigan football. Even Wisconsin players have started to post on social media.

Scruggs coached at Cincinnati for four seasons. He spent two as the defensive line coach, as well as serving as the director of player development. Scruggs spent the 2022 season in the NFL with the Jets before returning to college with Wisconsin last season.

Nothing is official yet, but if Moore is able to hire Scruggs, it would be another huge addition and a reminder of why Michigan fans need to let Moore build his coaching staff before judging it.
