Eustace’s Warning Shot Heard Loud: A Forceful Message Delivered Before Birmingham City Meets Tom Wagner’s Squad
John Eustace insists he doesn’t have anything to prove on his first return to Birmingham City on Tuesday as Blackburn Rovers’ new head coach.
Brummie boss Eustace was sacked by Knighthead in October, despite Blues sitting sixth in the Championship table after successive home wins, and replaced by Wayne Rooney. Ex-Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray is now steadying the ship at St Andrew’s after Rooney’s disastrous tenure was cut short a month ago.
Eustace has moved on and finally returned to management last week by accepting the opportunity to replace Jon Dahl Tomasson at Ewood Park. Eustace watched Rovers defeat Stoke City 3-1 on Saturday and officially takes over for the Blues game.
His presence in the away dugout adds some extra spice to a match Blues owner Tom Wagner is due to attend. “It’s just another game for me, I had a fantastic time at Birmingham,” Eustace said.
“I had a brilliant 15 months there, lovely club, great people to work with, a fantastic squad of players, it is what it is. We have a Championship game against a very good team, with a good manager. It’s one we are all looking forward to.
“We grew a good culture at the football club, the fans saw a good commitment from the players. They bought into what we wanted to do so I’m sure I’ll get a decent reception. I don’t have a point to prove at all – 15 great months and we left the club in a very good position.”
