Breaking News: Wolves’ Dream of Club History Dashed as Devastating News Emerges

Wolves were sent into a state of panic when Matheus Cunha was withdrawn in the 20th minute against Brentford last weekend.

Although they were defeated 2-0 by the Bees, the result was the least of their concerns after watching their Brazilian star suffer a hamstring injury.

Initially, Gary O’Neil said that Cunha’s injury was a significant one and he put no timeline on his return to action, which handed Wolves a devastating blow.

However, the 24-year-old revealed on his Instagram story that the extent of his injury wasn’t as bad as first thought and he would only be out of action for a few weeks, expelling any further speculation on his fitness for the remainder of the season.

Cunha has been in excellent form for the Old Gold this term and stepped up when Hwang Hee-Chan was on Asia Cup duty with South Korea by scoring five goals and assisting twice in seven matches.

The pair have been incredible for O’Neil and have come close to breaking more history for Wolves, although the Brazilian’s injury has temporarily prevented them from doing so.

Wolves have never had two players in a single Premier League season reach double figures for goals, but that is a record that could be broken this season once Cunha returns from injury.

Despite missing four matches due to international commitments, Hwang has already scored 10 goals in the top flight this term while Cunha is on nine after scoring a memorable hat-trick against Chelsea.

While an injury to their star forward serves as a blow to Wolves ahead of their clash against Tottenham, the fact they are on the brink of achieving this feat just demonstrates how O’Neil has got Wolves playing free-flowing football.

Under previous managers, the Old Gold were one of the most goal-shy teams in the entire division.

Last season, Wolves recorded the worst expected goals (xG) in the Premier League (35.13), as per Understat, while Julen Lopetegui was at the helm.

O’Neil, however, has injected a fresh impetus into their attack and while that is down to the form of Cunha and Hwang, they also take more risks and show a fearlessness that has to be admired.

When in full flow and counter-attacking at speed, Wolves are a joy to watch and that is down to the tactical principles of O’Neil, who goes into every match with a plan to hurt the opposition.

That is why their attackers are now flourishing and why are they on the brink of making history in the Premier League.
