A Win For Celtic FC And A Blow To Rangers FC As Brendan Rogers Claims….
Celtic have the chance to go top of the Scottish Premiership after Rangers slipped to a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Motherwell on Saturday afternoon.
Theo Bair got the Steelmen off to a perfect start in the match at Ibrox after just nine minutes, slotting coolly past goalkeeper Jack Butland from a Jack Vale assist.
Rangers had chances in the first half but went into the interval behind with a lot of work to do in the second 45 minutes.
Philippe Clement’s outfit looked to have things back under control when James Tavernier converted a penalty to equalise.
However, Motherwell rallied and continued to threaten, eventually getting their reward from a back post Dan Casey header that eluded Butland.
Celtic now know if they beat Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon they will move one point ahead of the Ibrox challengers, returning to the top of the league table.
That’s no guarantee of course. The Bhoys have blown hot and cold throughout the season. Hearts, as we know, also beat Celtic 2-0 the last time the two clubs met in December.
However, after a morale-boosting week, hopes will be high that Brendan Rodgers’ outfit can go out and pick up an important victory in the capital.
There was a very strong 4-1 result at Tynecastle back in October with four different goalscorers thumping Steven Naismith’s team.
This is a chance gifted to Celtic that simply must be taken. It would shift title race momentum back to the Bhoys after a difficult period and set up the final nine games very nicely indeed.
