Russell Wilson Departs Pittsburgh Steelers Without A Deal… Expectations Not Really Cut Short.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will continue to wait on a potential deal with Rusell Wilson.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will wait and see if Russell Wilson is joining them this season after the Pro Bowl quarterback left his visit without a contract, according to Josina Anderson. However, the meeting lasted “hours” and was reported to be very positive.

Wilson was visiting the Steelers after making a stop with the New York Giants. The two sides have reported interest, but with free agency looming Wilson will likely have option as to where he’ll play in 2024.

The Steelers are not giving up on Kenny Pickett with the signing of Wilson. According to a league source, Pittsburgh views Wilson as a backup to Pickett this season, working as a mentor to the third-year quarterback and giving them peace of mind in a backup.

Wilson, 35, was 7-8 for the Denver Broncos last season, throwing for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdowns to eight interceptions.

He was released due to his salary cap situation but is still holding over a $85 million dead cap for the Broncos, leaving many to believe he’ll sign for around the league minimum with his new team.

Despite Wilson not signing a deal during his visit, it’s not ruled out he won’t sign with the Steelers this offseason. He’ll likely continue exploring other options and decide on the best destination to continue his career, which may very likely be Pittsburgh.
