Baffling Statement From Packers RB Aaron Jones Over Interest From Cowboys.
Dallas Cowboys To Make ‘Immediate Call’ To Sign Green Bay Packers Running Back Aaron Jones – NFL Free Agency Report.
NFL free agency is just now beginning, and yet it seems that the national media has already exhausted itself with “scoops” about which star running back the Dallas Cowboys are about to sign.
The latest “report”? The Green Bay Packers’ running back Aaron Jones, as the two sides are reportedly negotiating a paycut … and if a new deal isn’t reached, the cap-strapped Packers might be forced to waive Jones.
And then? Washington Post NFL “insider” Jason La Canfora writes in exploring the situation: “If Jones is cut, I would expect him to get immediate calls from Baltimore and Dallas, among others.
Jones is in the final year of a four-year deal that pays him $12 million this year. He already accepted a $5 million pay cut last year. Maybe he won’t do it again. But at age 29, injuries are now an issue.
Maybe the Cowboys are haunted by the damage he did them in the playoffs. Jones rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns in the Packers’ opening-round win over the Cowboys in the playoffs. Oh, and added 108 more yards in the Packers’ second-round loss to the 49ers.
Green Bay might be in a tough spot. The guy who was drafted to be Jones’ heir, A.J. Dillon, is already going to hit free agency. He will turn 26 this year and has his own injury concerns.
