Brendan Rogers Claims Over Better Title Contenders.
This season’s title race has the potential to be one of the closest we have seen in a number of years at Celtic as Brendan Rodgers starts to get a tune out of his players.
The Celtic manager took his team back to the top of the league with a fantastic 3-1 win over St Johnstone yesterday albeit with Rangers still to play Dundee at Dens Park this lunchtime.
However, taking the top spot shows that despite the much-held media narrative surrounding this Celtic side, Rodgers has shown that his team are not out of this title race by any stretch of the imagination.
In fact, the Celtic boss has shared why he believes his team have an advantage over Rangers as the season draws to its conclusion and admits that he is ‘excited’ by the challenge that lies ahead of his side.
Rodgers said [BBC], “It’s this part of the race that counts. I’m happy with where we’re at. We’re getting results, our level of performance is a little bit inconsistent but we’re winning games.
“Last week, we had a really good win [against Livingston in the Scottish Cup]. I was really happy with the attacking side of the performance but not so much the defending side, we gave too much away.
“It’s important that we can get our key players back after the international break.
“Game by game, just focus on ourselves, on our performance. We’ve got numbers of players that know how to win. That’s very important. We’re very excited by the challenge.”
There are a number of players littered through this Celtic team that have huge experience of not only winning titles and silverware in Scotland but also abroad.
Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor are all experienced treble winners in Scotland.
But we also have guys like Joe Hart who has created his own piece of history having won every domestic honour on both sides of the border. Kyogo Furuhashi who has won the Japanese Cup and Super Cup, and Tomoki Iwata who has also won the J League.
