Indiana freshman guard Gabe Cupps announced today on the Hoosier Hysterics podcast that he will return to Indiana. With the new transfer portal rules allowing any player to transfer any year, the landscape of college basketball has changed. However Cupps said he is excited for the future of IU basketball.

With the new transfer portal rules allowing any player to transfer any year, the landscape of college basketball has changed. However Cupps said on today’s Hoosier Hysterics podcast that he is excited for the future of IU basketball.

Earlier today, IU sophomore center Kel’el Ware told 247Sports that he will be entering the NBA Draft. Ware is widely projected to be a first-round draft pick. IU has been operating for a while now with the assumption that Ware would enter the NBA Draft.

 

Cupps was a four-star high school prospect and an Ohio Mr. Basketball while starring for his father’s Centerville High School team that had tremendous success.

As a freshman at Indiana, Cupps was forced into an early starting role as sixth-year senior Xavier Johnson suffered various injuries.

Cupps started 22 of the 33 games he played and averaged 21.7 minutes. He averaged 2.6 points, 1.2 assists, 0.8 turnovers, 0.7 steals and 1.8 rebounds.

Cupps shot 36 percent from 3-point range on 0.4 makes per game.
