GoVols247 Podcast: Vols batter Duke, book Sweet Sixteen trip

ORLANDO — Looking for on-site discussion of Tennessee’s win over Duke to book a Sweet Sixteen berth?

There’s a GoVols247 Podcast for that.

GoVols247’s Ben McKee and Wes Rucker convened in Orlando to discuss Tennessee’s 65-52 win over Duke on Saturday in an NCAA Tournament Round of 32 game at Amway Center, the home of the NBA’s Orlando Magic.

A performance from the ages for senior forward Olivier Nkamhoua and a dominant defensive effort across the board on defense helped the veteran-laden Vols dispatch the young, talented Blue Devils, who had been one of the hottest teams in the country and won 10 consecutive games.

Tennessee’s win booked the Vols a trip to the Sweet Sixteen at Madison Square Garden, where on Thursday night they’ll play Florida Atlantic of Fairleigh Dickinson for a spot in the Elite Eight.

What got into Nkamhoua down the stretch Saturday? Why can’t he do that — or at least something like that — more consistently? Why do these Vols play their best basketball against the best competition? How satisfying was it to watch Tennessee play a game without getting in its own way with silly turnover after silly turnover? Has this team earned a break after everything it’s had to deal with during the season? How will these Vols keep that chip on their shoulders when they’ll be a big favorite against FAU or FDU? Those are some of the main topics of discussion in this episode.

The next GoVols247 Podcast will be released Monday, unless big breaking news occurs before that point.
