Sad News:I May Not Return Walker Zimmerman Declares.
The center back was injured in the 73rd minute of Thursday’s Concacaf Champions Cup match against Inter Miami, colliding with midfielder Diego Gómez and requiring treatment on the pitch.
Zimmerman eventually returned to the field, but was clearly uncomfortable, limping and struggling with mobility. He was substituted for Jack Maher nine minutes later.
It’s a significant loss for Nashville. Obviously, Zimmerman has a unique leadership role as the captain. He’s also one of the most dominant center backs in North America and is the organizer of Nashville’s back line.
He dealt with an Achilles issue last season that forced him to play through significant pain for most of the season, and just returned to full fitness after undergoing a procedure that saw him miss much of preseason. Having a fully fit Zimmerman was a set to be a huge boost to Nashville this season.
Should Zimmerman miss any extended period of time, Jack Maher and Lukas MacNaughton will be the presumed starting pairing.
