Tonkin, 34 was activated on Friday and be in the Yankees’ bullpen for their series opener in Milwaukee.
This will be the third club this season for the righty, who began the season with the Mets and was traded to the Twins for cash on April 9 before returning to the Mets on April 17 on a waiver claim.
In six games, five with the Mets and one with the Twins, Tonkin pitched to a 6.00 ERA allowed 12 runs, six earned, on 10 hits over nine innings with 11 strikeouts and four walks. He has a 4.44 career ERA in 192 relief appearances over seven seasons with the Twins (2013-17, 2024), Braves (2023) and Mets (2024).
Tonkin’s best pitcher is his slider, which has held opposing hitters this season to a .133 batting average. His average velo for the pitch is 82.5 mph and he uses it 33.9 percent of the time, according to Baseball Savant. He also throws a lot of four-seam fastballs (29.5 percent) and sinkers (29 percent).
Morris, 27, will return to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and try to pitch his way back to the big leagues. Before his short stint with the Yankees, he pitched to a 1.93 ERA in four games with the RailRiders, one as a starter, with 11 strikeouts and six walks in 9 1/3 innings.
The Yankees acquired Morris from the Guardians for outfielder Estevan Florial on Dec 26. He spent parts of the last two seasons in the majors with Cleveland, going 1-2 with a 2.28 ERA in seven games (five starts) in 2022 and 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA in six relief appearances last season.
