The New York Yankees formally announced their coaching staff for the 2024 season under manager Aaron Boone.

Boone is returning to manage the Yankees for a sixth season and is under pressure after the Yankees failed to make the playoffs for the first time under his leadership. The Yankees went.

Among the moves the Yankees have made this offseason was to trade five players to the San Diego Padres to acquire Juan Soto in the All-Star’s final season of control. Soto can become a free agent after the 2024 season.

All of the coaching moves were previously reported but not formally announced.

The biggest ‘name’ among the new coaches is Brad Ausmus, who is now the bench coach. He replaces Carlos Mendoza, who is now the manager of the New York Mets.

Ausmus played 17 years and has five years of experience as a manager, including leading the Detroit Tigers to 2014 AL Central title. He was Oakland’s bench coach in 2022.

The Yankees hired James Rowson as their hitting coach. He replaces Sean Casey, who was a midseason replacement to the Yankees’ staff.

Rowson was the Tigers’ assistant hitting coach in 2023 and was in a similar role with the Miami Marlins from 2022-22. He was also the Minnesota Twins’ hitting coach from 2017-19. Before he became an MLB coach he was the Yankees’ Minor League hitting coordinator for seven years, and among his pupils was Aaron Judge.
