The Vols have a thin quarterback room, that’s why former UCF walk-on Gaston Moore has gotten a few snaps at quarterback this season. Moore impressed in the Tennessee Spring Game and played a bit against UConn.
Heupel will likely search for Iamaleava’s backup in the transfer portal. He likes to utilize the portal to bring in veteran QBs like he did with Hooker and Milton. So, Moore could decide to test the portal himself and see if he can find playing time at a lower level.
Since taking over at Tennessee, Heupel has seen Harrison Bailey, Kaidon Salter, and Tayven Jackson transfer out of his QB room. That’s left it thin and it could get thinner if Moore or Navy Shuler, whom Moore beat out for the QB3 job this season, search for greener pastures.
The 2024 NFL Draft has come to an end, and Tennessee football had three more Vols drafted and nine more signed undrafted free agent contracts with franchises throughout the league. We will have to wait and see if any of the 12 players from Tennessee who will begin their NFL careers this year will put together an All-Pro career.
The NFL is familiar with having Tennessee Volunteers in their locker rooms, with 387 Vols drafted all-time since 1936. There are currently 39 Volunteers across 21 active NFL rosters, including the 12 players who were just introduced into the league. Every player likely won’t make an active roster this Fall.
