NFL Rumors: Packers’ AJ Dillon Eyes Cowboys, Giants, Colts Contract as Landing Spot

After the Green Bay Packers reached a deal with star running back Josh Jacobs, it appears that there isn’t much room for the return of AJ Dillon. However, Dillon is reportedly not short on options in free agency.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Dillon is eyeing the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts as potential landing spots.

Dillon is a free agent for the first time after spending the first four years of his career in Green Bay. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported Tuesday that he “likely will land elsewhere” this offseason as the Packers rebuild their running back room around Jacobs, who agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal after starring for the Las Vegas Raiders for the last five years.

Veteran running back Aaron Jones was released by Green Bay after the Jacobs signing was confirmed. He reportedly opted to sign a one-year deal with the NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings just one day after his release.

Dillon was deployed as a change-of-pace running back who brought a different skill set to the field when he subbed in for Jones. He recorded a career-high 803 rushing yards in his second season in 2021, but his output has declined in each of the last two years.

After recording 770 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022, Dillon finished with 613 yards and two touchdowns while appearing in 15 games last season.

Joining the Giants or Colts would put Dillon in another shared backfield situation, as New York signed Devin Singletary earlier this week and Indianapolis is led by star running back Jonathan Taylor.

The Cowboys lost Tony Pollard to the open market after he joined the Tennessee Titans, so heading to Dallas could be Dillon’s best option if he wants to see a bigger role on offense in 2024.
