Another Scaring Result Comes Out From Brandon Nimmo Concussion Test.
One of the scariest injuries in baseball last season occurred in the Bronx when New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo got diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome and was shut down for the remainder of the 2023 campaign.
First-year New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza witnessed all that first-hand last season and now implored his star outfielder to undergo testing to see if he was suffering from a similar injury.
Before the Mets’ 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres, Brandon Nimmo revealed that he had undergone tests for a concussion.
I’ve undergone tests, and we are going to do more, just because Mendy [Mendoza] dealt with that last year, and he understands.
“So there will be more tests. But I don’t have any symptoms. I don’t feel fuzzy, I’m not having any trouble sleeping, I don’t have any sensitivity to light,” Nimmo said. To my knowledge, I’m fine, but it is something that’s on the team’s radar, for sure.
They’re trying to do right by me and making sure I continue to check all the boxes. So, I will continue to undergo whatever they want me to do and make sure that nothing pops up.
I just don’t think it’s an excuse, but it’s definitely weird that it correlates to getting hit in the head.
Nimmo has struggled since being hit on the head by a 91 mph fastball from Kyle Harrison, slashing .200/.278/.277 with no home runs and just four extra-base hits while striking out at a rate of 38.9%.
The 31-year-old discussed the idea of speaking with Rizzo if his slump continues, but Nimmo insists he is fine.
If one of these tests tells me we need to worry about it, we can address it then. Right now, I’m just trying to figure out what works,” Nimmo said. “It’s a weird time, I’ve never swung and missed like this for such an extended time.
Time will tell if and when Nimmo turns things around, but the potential that the Wyoming native could be dealing with some post-concussion symptoms is a scary thought for the blue and orange.
