Coleman Hawkins, a senior transfer to Kansas State University (K-State), has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Men’s College Player of the Year. This prestigious award, presented by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, recognizes the nation’s top men’s college basketball player. Hawkins’ inclusion among the semifinalists highlights his significant impact since joining the Wildcats.

 

Before transferring to K-State, Hawkins had a standout career at the University of Illinois. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged a career-high 12.1 points per game and achieved personal bests in field goal percentage (45.1%), three-point shooting (36.9%), and free throw accuracy (79.2%). Notably, he became the first player in Illinois history to record at least 900 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists, 100 blocks, and 100 steals, underscoring his versatility and all-around contributions.

 

At K-State, Hawkins has continued to excel. In a recent game against No. 3 Iowa State, he scored 17 points, contributing significantly to the Wildcats’ victory. Additionally, in a matchup against Arizona State, Hawkins delivered a season-best performance with 26 points, further solidifying his status as a key player for K-State.

 

Hawkins’ preseason accolades further attest to his prominence in college basketball. He was named the Preseason Big 12 co-Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team, as voted by the league’s coaches. Moreover, he was selected for the Watch List for the Karl Malone Award, given annually to the nation’s top power forward, marking his second consecutive appearance on this list after being named in the previous season while at Illinois.
