At the age of 35, Kevin Durant has defied the aging process in his 17th season in the NBA, as he has carried the Suns through injuries in the first couple of weeks of the season.
Durant is currently averaging just under 30 points per game, a performance that ranks him sixth in the NBA. What’s truly remarkable is the efficiency with which he has achieved this feat.
He is one of only five players to maintain a field goal percentage of.520 or higher while also averaging over 29 points per game.
If Durant maintains this impressive pace throughout the season, he could secure a spot in the top 10 of the NBA’s all-time scoring category.
So, it comes as no surprise that ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins ranked Kevin Durant as the NBA’s top offensive player.
During the Suns’ matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, Durant reaffirmed why he deserves this prestigious ranking.
With Bradley Beal and Devin Booker sidelined due to injuries, Durant delivered an extraordinary 41-point performance. This marked his first 40-point game since joining the Suns last spring.
Notable in this 41-point performance was his readiness to drive to the hoop, as if he were still playing with fresh legs.
Durant shot 12 free throws against the Pistons, which is actually less than he shot in the game prior, as he got to the line seven different times against the 76ers last Saturday.
As Kevin Durant begins his first full season with the Phoenix Suns, it’s challenging to envision a more promising start for the future Hall of Famer.
