Breaking News: Giants’ Free Agent Targets Surprising Position for Mega Deal

The Giants entered last season ready to expand upon their successful 2022 campaign, but instead missed the playoffs and finished with a disappointing 6-11 record. Now, they must take steps to rebuild.

And offensive guard Justin Pugh, who is now a free agent, thinks the Giants should prioritize adding a weapon to the opposite edge of their defensive line. That guy would act as a “closer,” Pugh told Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

“Getting a guy to pair with Dexter and Thibodeaux that is a closer, a certified threat,” Pugh said on the Talkin’ Ball with Pat Leonard podcast .”I would spend the most money on that position,” Pugh said. “Go get a guy that’s done it before at a high level. You look at Josh Allen, the defensive end from the Jaguars. I know he’s a free agent. I think you build from the D-line.

If I was putting a priority on positions in the NFL, quarterback clearly is one, defensive line is two,” Pugh added. “And I would have eight of ‘em. That’s how the Giants won all their Super Bowls. They had the best defensive line in football. That should be the top free agent priority for the Giants is to get another edge rusher. You need to have a guy that makes offenses lose sleep on Monday or Tuesday when you’re getting ready to play them.”

Pugh, 33, came “straight off the couch” in Week 6 to help a struggling Giants offensive line. He started at left guard and displayed a team mentality when he later shifted to left tackle – a position he had only played five snaps at since 2015 – when Josh Ezeudu exited with an injury. Pugh said on Talkin’ Ball that he loves New York and wants to sign with the Giants again.
